Shared solutions to protect shared values

A great deal of early outreach and initial engagement were conducted during 2009 and 2010 to prepare for and facilitate development of the Strategy.

Conservation Leadership Forums

Three Conservation Leadership Forums in June 2009, January 2010, and November 2010 were held to gauge support for a national strategy and identify subsequent direction and further discussion. Forum participants included more than 70 leaders from federal and state natural resource agencies, as well as nongovernmental environmental conservation and professional organizations.

Ninety-seven percent of participants agreed that a National Fish, Wildlife, and Plants Climate Adaptation Strategy is needed to address the threat to America’s natural resources. The Conservation Leadership Forums helped to inform the Strategy’s purpose, vision, and guiding principles, gather input on target audiences, organization, and key components, and develop next steps for engaging the broader natural resource community. Initial Listening Sessions

A series of public Listening Sessions were held at a variety of natural resource professional and scientific meetings and conferences around the country from March through October of 2010, to present information and materials and gather input on the Strategy, and to provide natural resource professionals an opportunity to ask questions and provide advice. The full schedule and a summary of key themes collected from the sessions are available at right.
